07.16.2019 BDSer Spotlights

This month’s Employee Spotlight features one of our Sr. Client Service Managers and loyal BDSer since 2006, Cydney S.! She provides field operations guidance and training support for one of our major clients. Learn more about Cydney, her journey with BDS, what leadership means to her, and her hobbies and interests outside of work!

Q: Tell us about your journey with BDSmktg and your current role now.

A: I can’t believe I have already been with BDS over 10 years now! I started as a Market Development Manager, training retail staff in wireless locations every day. I enjoyed 6 years on the program in a few different roles and ended as the Verizon National Training Manager supporting the BDS field training team for our mobile client. In my recent 4+ years, I have been part of the Worldwide Partner Activation Team for a major consumer electronics client.

Q:  What does true leadership mean to you?

A:  I think true leadership is about empowerment and a leader should build an environment of trust and openness to allow a team to really flourish. I feel that this leads to a productive, positive, and creative culture that I want in a team in which I am part of.

Q: What are some trends that you’re seeing in the retail world?

A: I personally love the increased focus on accessibility for consumer electronics. There are so many incredible devices and services out for people of all different abilities. It’s great to see companies making the effort to put that in the forefront of the design instead of an add-on or a hard-to-get variation. My personal favorite is the Xbox Adaptive Controller!

Q:  What has been your favorite project/event you worked on?

A: A soft skill training program for the client I currently work with that blends online learning, on-the-job tasks, webinars and workshops. It is my favorite program because I can see directly how the content, graphics and course design improves the soft skills of the trainers around the world. This helps the trainers in their current role, but also elevates them for bigger roles in the future.

Q:  What insights have you gained from working with clients over the years?

A: Working with clients over the years, I have learned the importance of being a true partner. Clients are looking for the field expertise and insights we can bring on both the good and the bad side. It is important to celebrate the wins and positive side of things, but the clients need your expertise to realize what is working and how to improve their business. Therefore, we need to make sure to share the entire picture.

Q:  Outside of work, do you have any interests or hobbies?

A: I love any activity on the water with my family! We spend a lot of time boating around the different islands between Washington and Canada, fishing, and wakeboarding. I love it all!
